BOP Picture Editing @ Ohio University
March 27, 2007
From this past Wednesday to Saturday, I lent a hand during this year’s National Press Photographers Association Best Of Photography editing competition. Every year it is held at Ohio University where I go to school as a graduate student. The faculty expects us to participate, not only because they need our help to pull it off, but also because it was an extremely interesting and educational experience. I ended up doing some of the lack luster jobs like everyone else, like getting sugar for the judges’ coffee, and picking one of them up at the airport.
Mostly though, I helped work on the multi-media documentary that several students produced of the event. I think there were about twenty people in total working really hard to collaborate on this seven minute movie, and I have to say it was the first thing I have done while at school I am really, really proud of. Not because of the work, but because it was an experience we shared and came together to make something really impressive that others may view. For the most part, I helped collect and produce audio with Travis Dove. From there Chad Stevens mixed our sounds with still images, time lapses and video collected by other students.
In the end, I would say the movie was really fun to watch. Just about as much fun as helping put it together.
